Interlaken was an entirely different Swiss experience than we had yesterday. As much as Lucerne is calm and tranquil, Interlaken is energetic and daring. The sports people do here are insane. When we arrived yesterday we saw at least 10 different people paragliding off mountains, and tourist info about helicopter rides and skydiving and skiing on these crazy-steep cliffs. I guess some people are into that kind of thing...
We decided to take a more tame route, while still seeing the sites. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it yet, but my dad has ankle problems, and I've got this nasty hip issue.... My body will allow me to walk for a couple hours, then BAM, I'm limping for the rest of the day. Fun stuff. So we generally take it easy while still fitting in tons and tons of cool stuff. We're making it work. Anyways, we decided to go up into the alps, and we're so glad we did!
After about 5 horrifying train and cable car rides (albeit coming from an acrophobe), we arrived at one of the top viewing areas in the alps, Schilthorn. This is also where part of the 1969 bond film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, was filmed. We could see the 3 peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau just in the distance, the most famous view of the alps. There was a huge viewing platform to walk out to, AND, there was a rotating restaurant too! It was an amazing trip. Although when the cable car was going down, every time we would go by one of the huge posts, we would disconnect and freefall for like an eighth of a second... Can't they fix that? Or do they have a camera in there where these hunky Swiss dudes just eat cheese and chocolate and laugh at our crazy faces?
Anyways, we had a cappuccino mid mountain and watched some people jump off cliffs with chutes on their backs. I don't understand it. We wandered through the sleepy mountain towns before heading back to the hotel, relaxing, and getting some sleep before heading to ITALY tomorrow!!
