It was a rainy morning when we said goodbye to Switzerland and jumped on a high speed train to Milan, then to Florence. High speed is right... Most of the time we were going 190 mph!
We got to Florence and walked to our hotel, grabbing our first slice of tasty Italian pizza along the way. Even my dad, mr. pizza himself, said it was delicious! We got settled then went out to explore. We only had the afternoon/evening and we were already hurting, so we took it easy.
We stopped at a sweet restaurant a block away from the Duomo and has some delicious lasagna and a couple glasses of regional chianti. Then we walked around for a few hours, seeing the duomo and other super famous buildings, enjoying gelato in one of the cities in which it was born. We bought some Italian leather at a colorful market, sat on the Ponte Veccio bridge watching the sunset over the Arno river. We listened to some street bands and had some more gelato on the peaceful walk back to the hotel. Wish we would have had more time in this historic city, but we are excited to see more of Tuscany tomorrow!
