Plato, or was it Aristotle, proposed that the best system is not democracy but one where the cleverest people are in charge and figure out what to do. This implies that the plebs shouldn’t have a say in what we do, which is something I don’t agree with on principle, but in practice, I’m wavering a bit. I’m especially worried when anyone proposes a referendum since I’m quite sure that the vast majority of people haven’t got a bloody clue what to do, so their guide is some trash-daily paper owned by Rupert Murdoch (its no better in the States, where Fox news feeds endless pap to the masses, cleverly disguised as "news"). Anyway, I discovered you can, sort of, give people a cleverer appearance by photographing them from above the TV set. It was an accident, but it did neatly reveal how Dave and Ted could join the Mekons and go to the planet Zog – quite an attractive idea (there's a few others I'd like to see go with them).
