Welcome to my journal! Over the last four days I've been perusing the sights and sounds of Bangkok arriving on the 21st Nov after a gruelling 11 hour flight! Nice! We met Warrens uncle 'Bomber' at the airport and he sent for his driver to pick us up. Driving down the Bangkok streets was an eye-opener the place is mad and I've never seen anything like the driving, there are no rules whatsoever! People drive up the wrong side of the road! Crazy! We eventually arrived at Bombers appartment right in the centre and its amazing as the photos would suggest. Luxury apartment with a pool, not exactly roughing it! The city is incredible a mass of skyscrapers with the odd shanty town and the odd temple!
After we'd settled down Bomber cooked us a massive spag bol and we had some wine with dinner. Bomber owns several bars down a road called Soi Cowboy so he took us out to sample them. Going out in Bangkok takes a lot of getting used to, lots of scantily clad women eyeing you up and basically wanting your money! Theres no chance of a quiet beer as they just harass you, which is nice! Anyway we had an awesome night ended up in a pool bar and stayed out till the early hours! We also met up with Mick which was cool as we hadn't seen him for 5 months, he's still exactly the same though even if he has knocked his 2 front teeth out! (its alright he's taking advantage of the cheap dentistry over here!)
The following day we just chilled by the pool and recovered from both the jet lag and the booze! Then we called our driver after the maid had done our washing and Bomber took us out to the most amazing seafood restaurant! The place is massive holding 2000 people its like something from Vegas with all the lights everywhere. You go in and theres a selection of live seafood displayed in a 50m long bar; approximately. You then take a shopping trolley and proceed to choose anything you like. We had lobster, tiger prawns 30cm long, king crab claws, other types of crab and a couple seabass. It was all cooked for us and we gladly scoffed the lot, delicious and amazing! Any place with the moto ' if it swims we have it' is good in my book! Then our driver took us on a driving tour of the seedy area in Bangkok called Patpong, not a nice place but an experience none the less, espeically seeing all the lady boys and there is loads but they are easy to spot no matter what people say!
The next day we got up early and sampled some of the tourist attractions like The Grand Palace which is incredible and we met the Emerald Buddha, what a geezer. We went for a couple of beers in the evening but on the way back we sampled some of the street cooking, which is all over the place, these people just kart around mini BBQ's and cook allsorts like cockroaches, locusts and more common dishes like noodles and rice. The smells are incredible over here everywhere you step you're hit by a different smell.
Today we've been doing more site seeing, we used the crazy buses, the skytrain and a tuk tuk, we also got to see Koh San Road which is were Mick was staying and where everyother backpacker stays, theres a photo of the road in the second album I uploaded, neon signs everywhere, bussling, street stalls selling everthing you can think of for dirt cheap prices, ace road, recommended! After Koh san we headed to Wat Poh where we saw the massive reclining Buddha, it really is massive stretching 55m long and 11m high, we also saw the golden Buddha and witnessed a Buddhists praying session. We had a little look at the river and then cruised home. Tomorrow we have a flight booked to Koh Samui to explore the islands.
Bangkok is incredible, so busy and and completely different to anywhere I've been before, the Thai people are very welcoming and cool. Its not in their nature to get angry and there aren't any rules, its like organised chaos. Well recommend a visit wish I had a couple more days but its been none stop so definately need a rest on a paradise island, luckily I'm going to one tomorrow!
