After spending 4 days in the Cameron Highlands we ventured further south to the capital 'Kuala Lumpur'. After a four hour coach journey we arrived hoping to find a similar coach to Singapore early in the morning; to no avail! Instead the only transport we could find was a train at 14.15 the following day. In KL we went straight out into the city to explore, we walked for miles! Having spoken to the tourist information people we decided to head up to the Menara Tower as you can go up higher than you can in the Petronas Towers and get a better view. This communications tower is the 4th tallest in the world! We had an awesome view of the city and the Petronas Towers and waited until sunset so we saw the city at night. We headed down and had dinner at 'The Hard Rock Cafe' then watched Liverpool beat Charlton 3-0, get in! 11 goal in 3 games!
The following day it was time for us to travel by train to Singapore. Our train was at 14.15 and supposed to arrive at 21.45 but after a delay we didn't arrive in Singapore until 00.30, which sucked a bit! I arranged to meet up with Loisue and Matt in the morning for breakfast, we checked into a hostel and got some shut eye.
Meeting up with Louise and Matt was awesome, one of the highlights if not the highlight of my trip so far. We had some breakfast and I checked out the Pan Pacific where they are staying, a touch up in class from my little hostel! Louise gave me the Christmas cards and presents from Mum and Dad, themselves and Becky. I'm looking forward to opening them on Christmas day and Becky's gift was awesome! Thanks pie!
We headed into town and checked out Raffles courtyard, unfortunately the weather prevented us from going in the DHL balloon. We headed into Chinatown had a mook about and a coffee, then we headed to Orchard Road and bought some Orchids, the national flower of Singapore. We had a brief stop at the hotel then headed down to the Espianade to see the river and the 'Merlion'. I had an awesome day and really enjoyed meeting up with Matt and Lousie, it sounds like they had a wicked time in Aussie and I'm well looking forward to going myself!
After I said my goodbyes I went and met the others in The Prince of Wales (our new hostel), we had a few beers then checked out Orchard Towers, ladyboys galore, couldn't handle it! One even attempted to lick my ear! Crazy scenes, out of there like a shot!
The following day we wanted to go to the zoo but the weather was attrocious and prevented us from doing anything really! We had a nice tapas meal in the evening at Chijmes and were told about a club named Zouk that was good on a Wednesday night so we planned on going there the day after. We awoke in the morning and decided to take a trip to Santosa Island which is basically an manmade resort that they all go on holiday to. It was a good experience as everything is perfect its quite surreal really. We visited the underwater centre where I fed rays (this was cool they just kind of suck the food out of your hand), saw the biggest fish I've ever seen, watched tiger sharks being fed, it was really good and the fish had nice big tanks to swim around in which was nice. We strolled up the manmade beach and took a bus to Dolphin Lagoon stopping off at the southernmost point in Asia first, (I was dubious about this!). The Dolphins put on a really good show jumping around and swimming really fast and stuff. I've never seen a dolphin before so this was a good experience, they were pink dolphins too which are very rare!
After spending basically the whole day at Santosa Island we headed back and grabbed some food and prepared for the night ahead. We sampled a beer in our hostel bar then went to Raffles and had a Singapore sling, its gotta be done! It was actually dead nice and they encourage littering, they give you loads of peanuts to eat and you just throw the shells on the floor, the place is covered in them. The exterior really does feel like a 5 star hotel too, posh designer boutiques everywhere, the courtyard is well nice, very swanky. After our cocktails we had to get to Zouk quick smart to get in before ten, coz it was cheaper. Unfortunately the taxis were thin on the ground so these crazy guys on bikes said they could take us there in twenty minutes, perfect. So we jumped on these rickety old bikes that had a sidecar for us. These bikes had one gear and looked very hard to ride. The drivers pedalled their hearts out whilst we sat back listening to cheesy dance music on their mini stereos, I felt quite bad really! Eventually we arrived after seeing most of Singapore, but unfortunately it was past ten! Oh well! We entered Zouk which seems like a typical student club, it was wicked, crazy Asians rocking out to old school English tunes, they knew all the moves! We had plenty to drink as the drinks were buy one get one free! Vodka red bulls all round! I don't remember how but we ended up talking to these guys who really were pretty well known in the club, they took a liking to us and got us into the VIP room. These guys were extremely camp and took a huge liking to G'bo, it was hilarious, they were very touchy feely with him, he loved it! We didn't get back to our hostel until 6 in the morning and had to check out at 11 after packing up all of our stuff, enough said!
Surprisingly enough I felt ok the next day; checked out on time (G'bo was slightyly worse for wear and booked another night!) and went to see the 'Fountain of Wealth', the Worlds largest fountain, its massive! Overall I absolutely loved Singapore and think its a great holiday destination, its pristine, organised and theres loads of stuff to do; nice restaurants, a beach resort, everything! Top class time!
But thats it for South East Asia, finito! One chapter complete and another one opens! Australia on the 22nd!
