Goodbye to longitude 131! Hello again Alice Springs. Went into the town today and to visit the school of the air. Fascinating. Some of the children live up to 700 kilometres from Alice. They meet their teacher once a year and get together as a school perhaps 3 times a year. Until 2005 they still just had radio. Now each child has 15,000 $ of computer equipment. So now they have studios with cameras for the teachers. There are 120 children. Forgot to take camera so no photos. Hope to manage a visit to flying doctor before we leave - their base is also Alice. Like the school they cover an area of 521,000 sq miles. Apparently that's 10 times the size of England. They say they are the largest classroom in the world.
