After leaving Los Angeles and driving out into the country everything including the driving was easier. It was scary to look towards Los Angeles from many kilometres out and still be able to see the smog build up and start to billow out through the valleys. We stayed in several country parks on our way to San Diego. We mostly found the people to be friendly but very insular in their knowledge and opinions on world affairs.
On arrival in San Diego we were in awe of the road systems with highways up to 8 lanes and tiered one above another, but surprisingly we found it relatively easy to get around. We decided to again stay out of town and headed out to a park in El Cajon. We went in search of a feed in our price range and were told of the nearby casino. While casino's are not legal in California the Indians have their own legal jurisdiction over their reservations and this tribe had built a casino. Our interest in the casino was not that we are gamblers but that the casino's all seem to put on good cheap meals in the hope of attracting patrons, who they then can get to gamble.
We spent a couple of days looking around San Diego and decided it was clean, safe, friendly and that we liked the visit. San Diego, is also convenient for a day visit into Mexico our next excursion.
