I have found my new happy place and its swimming in these amazing Cenotes, WOW,WOW,WOW - the water is so beautiful, soft clean and full of minerals, you feel amazing when you come out.
We decided to be real tourists and book a tour, Haciendas & Cenotes, we were visiting 3 Haciendas & 2 Cenotes. It was hilarious, I wouldn't book anyone on this tour as it was so badly organised but we found the humour in it and will add to our stories to tell people no doubt. I'm not going to enlighten you on all the experiences probably best told in person as you had to be there!!!
First of all the bilingual guide couldn't string a sentence together and if you asked him anything in depth he got flustered and tongue tied so we gave up and just cruised along. The Haciendas were old, broken down and needed a lot of work - according to Inspector Rod!!!
Actually Mexico is pretty broken down - the poverty and living conditions we saw outside of Merida was terrible, the rubbish quite unbelievable in the streets and peoples back yards - something we can't understand from New Zealand.
The Highlight of the day for me was swimming in the Cenotes - the best back yard pool you could dream of.
Apparently the underwater river goes for great distances and if you know your way you can dive these and travel underneath the ground via these rivers, sounds a bit claustrophobic for me but I can imagine it would be spectacular.
