Dear Reader
Today we visited the ministry of health.Their premises are just along from the rather grand parliament buildings and high court and we were definitely in the political heart of New Zealand. We were again warmly welcomed by our hosts who had prepared a nice pot of tea for our arrival.Dr David Chaplow, Director and Chief Advisor in mental health and Andrew Crisp, gave us an interesting overview of how they see Forensic Services and Recovery approach fitting together within the context of healthcare delivery. There was a lot to take in but some really usefulfood for thought. We heard about a recent highly successful anti-stigma campain involving a famous All Blacks Player and were interested to hear David Chaplow's views about the importance of supporting the person's transition to the community through small low secure and open units. We traded the shortbread for some weighty documents and feeling pleased to have had the opportunity to speak with these leaders in mental health.
Now its time to pack up and prepare for a six hour drive to Lake Taupo tomorrow and are having a welcome home cooked meal at Teva's place. Will be in touch over the weekend as long as there is access to internet.
