Hello all,
We are all set up in our new hotel with time, energy and wi-fi!We have packed in a lot since we last blogged, travelling to our next work destination and making the best of our weekend along the way.Our hire car is redand has a spoiler on the back so we feel like girl-racers.Our first stop was Hamner, up in the mountains, a bit like Aviemore but with thermal springs.Aftera few hours of relaxing in sulphur smelling hot pools we hit the road again to make our way to Kaikoura. We were amazed by the snow peaked mountains and torqouise sea.Kaikoura is known for it's whale watching and dolphin swimming so we immediately booked ourselves in for some of the dolphin swimming. At the very last moment, due to high winds and choppy waters the trip was cancelled what a disappointment, we were gutted (Adrienne was on the verge of having a tantrum but then remembered she was 30 not 3)!!In the afternoon the whale watching was also cancelled so made our way home with heavy hearts and wallets. However determination prevailed and we managed to get out whale watching the next day just as we were leaving town.We were able to spot four sperm whales and a pod of dolphins which was an unforgettable and magical experience. The photos don't quite do justice to how beautiful it was.We would both like to go back there to do the dolphin swimming. It would be worth another 24 hour flight just for that.
Another couple of hours drive and a 3 hour ferry took us through more stunning scenery and eventually a much busier city, Wellington. We have a busy time planned here and are off to visit the local forensic unit in Porirua.Adrienne is looking forward to seeing some long lost friends who live here (not in the unit)! We hope the sun keeps shining and that the people here are as friendly and helpful as the people in the South Island.
NZ phrase of the day; sweet as
Hope your all doing ok over there
