We arrived in to the harbour-side village of Strahan late afternoon and our first stop was the tourist information centre to find accommodation.
Strahan is full of stories from the days of convicts and pioneers toughing it out in Tasmania's wild west. Nearby, is Sarah Island, once a notorious convict prison. We booked tickets to see The Ship that Never Was that evening which tells the true story of the greatest escape of Australian colonial history which was very entertaining and included lots of audience participation for both adults and children.
After the show we walked along the harbour to a local fish and chip van (all freshly cooked to order in Australia so a 30-minute wait), and sat looking at the boats whilst enjoying our fresh fish. We walked off dinner back to our accommodation and drove 6km out of town to Ocean Beach, which is 40km long, wild surf, treacherous for swimming and the best place to watch the orange orb of the sun melt into the sea and lighting up the sand dunes as it sank - it truly was an amazing sunset and a perfect end to our time in Tasmania.
Unfortunately, it was just an overnight stay so we didn't have time to do the famous Gordon River Cruise and we had decided to do the one in Corinna instead as it was a more intimate experience - 20 people as opposed to 100+, although it does come highly recommended.

Rachel Wow wow wow. What an amazing sunset. The colours as you say in the sand were spectacular. I’d have been suffering with hangry waiting 30 mins for my supper. I quite agree an excellent way to finish your Tasmanian adventure. X
