Arrived in Capetown in the late evening. As we had been here a number of times before, we decided to stay "out of town" in Camps Bay. Our apartment was located in the shadow of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles but only about 100 yards from the beach and a large selection of bars and restaurants' …… Where better to spend a week before the main trek begins.
The first bar on the front advertised "Happy Hour" with cocktails at half price …. We stopped briefly, it turned out the happy hour lasted for two hours, so 8 margaritas later we went looking for food.
The next day we did the wine tour (more alcohol) and in the evening returned home for the happy hour, where we had arranged to meet a friend who we had originally met in the Atacama Desert, he had become a professional Photographer and was on an assignment in Africa. Out of sheer politeness we had a few drinks together……. Are we seeing a pattern emerging?
On the last full day before setting off on our trek, we moved into the centre of Capetown and booked into the Cape Sun hotel. The late morning saw us trying to secure our Mozambique visa, we had assumed we could get one at the border but found out late in the day, that we needed it in advance. After a number of emails and telephone calls to various official groups over the previous few days, we finally managed to pick our visa up - another crisis averted.
In the late afternoon we met some friends of Heather's, from her time in South Africa and had "High Tea" at the Mount Nelson Hotel …. Not quite the Ritz but pretty posh nevertheless.
