The plan was for everyone but Belia and I to travel to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. I thought it would be a lot for Belia to handle. I encouraged Mariah and Darius to stay back too, and go when they were older, but they insisted on going. Mariah and Darius had learned about concentration camps in school, and in books, so they were intent on going. When the rest of the group started driving they realized that the GPS was taking them to a different Buchenwald, and unfortunately the camp is much further. They turned around, and made other plans to visit Frankfurt instead. Tim and I stayed back with the kids, and Brennin joined Tammy, Doug and Deborah.
The kids played in the apartments while Tim and I went to the cafe downstairs for coffee, blogging, and internet. The cafe was meticulously cared for, the smell of pies and coffee were divine, and soft classical music played. It was the perfect way to spend a morning. We really felt at home in Bacharach.
While we had coffee the kids were busy preparing a surprise spa experience for the adults. We were not allowed to look in certain rooms until the evening, when our pampering would begin.
Tim and I walked down the street and picked up groceries in a small shop. We stopped at the bakery for bread, and at the butcher for meat.
Frankfurt didn't turn out to be a favorite spot. They shopped a bit, and took a boat trip, but didn't find it that interesting. When Tammy and Doug texted that they would be back in time to eat, Tim went back to the butcher for more meat. We prepared supper and set a long table for 11 people.
After supper the girls started the spa. We received shoulder, neck, hand, feet head, and back massages. Tammy and I even had our nails painted. They were tireless, spending a lot of time relaxing us. We felt totally spoiled and tipped them well.
