Arrived in a very warm Cairns with my stupidly oversized bag.
Cairns is STUNNING!!!! It is the firts place in Australia where i have been and thought ahh this is why people move to Australia ( dont panic mum just a thought). It's surrounded by the most lush tropical green rainforests and although the beach is a mud flat the lagoon area makesup for it. But having said that Cairns city centre is literally just full of backpackers, tour agents, souv shops and lots ofpubs offering free food. I really would not like to be a local of cairns because the whole place is just full of drunk tourists. Which is all good fun but after two nights in the town I was a bit over it, and i cant face another free veggy pasta meal.
Staying at a really cool hostel 15 mins walk from the city centre called Calipso. Its tropically themed and has its own bar which is pretty cool and the staff are so friendly.
Today i just lazed around the lagoon for a bit but also visited Rusty Markets whicg were really cool. The climate up here is tropical so the fruit is amazing heapps of things like plantain and yams as well.
Currently having major dilemma about what trip to do. Cairns itself doesnt have a lot to do but the trips you can do from cairns are so cool and i dont know where to start really. However i have narrowed it down to either doing an overnight eco-activity tour to the atherton tablelands where there is heaps of rainforest and waterfalls/ or doing a day on the reef. The dilema is my next stop is the whitsunday islands where i will spend 3 days on a boat snorkelling etc so do i really need another one... but then it is the Great Barrier Reef, and i think Uncle Roy may actually kill me if i come all this way and dont see it.
Hmm I dont know but i will keep you posted!!
