Now living with a baby cow..... say no more. Yes that's correct the latest addition to the animal rescue centre that is the girls house is baby calf SPIRIT. Rescued from the Ukaka community where he had been fed only water for 2 weeks and had children jumping all over its little body.
So it'd my day off and I fully intended on an afternoon of doing pretty much nothing except reading and perhaps dipping into a packet of percy pigs ( thanks mum). However just after lunch the girls come and give me a sneaky call, I slip off to the back of the kitchen to see a small cow in a trailer and just think ohhh hear we go again. I have to admit at first I wasn't overly excited because as you all knowI am NOT an animal person, but then again you have to embrace the outback experience. It soon became clear that as it was my day off I was on baby cow duty for the afternoon. I accepted this and was all ready to embrace the experience until I heard a scream and Lucy announcing " oh god he has maggots in his bum". It was when i found myself wrist deep in cow poo, scooping out maggots I realized that percy pigs and OK magazine were not going to happen. - However I am very proud with the way I coped with my babysitting and am pleased to announce that Spirit is now a much healthier big fat cheeky bull who likes to head butt me a lot.
So tomorrow the girls leave and I am a single mother which will be sad.Tomorrow evening should be good though, we are having a goodbye party ( fancy dress) - I am going as the Southern Cross, the guys from Wilderness Lodge are also coming so should be fun. However my luck being as it is I am of course on the early shift the next day.
It was nice this week as we decided one night to camp out. I have to admit I didn't really want to, as its hard to spend the night on the floor in fear of snakes when you know you have a bead just ten mins away. But I did it and am glad that I did it was such a nice night and there was something nice about waking up in the fresh air at 6am as the sun rose.
It is very quiet here lately and I am finding it hard to stay motivated when I know the majority of my day will be spent cleaning things we cleaned only a day ago but have been freshly coated in orange sand overnight. Its going to be even worse when the girls leave, as I willonly have the lovely Moz and his decorative chickens to keep me smiling in the morning ( all we be apparent when I add photos). Anyway its only 2 weeks and I will be back to normal, and still you never know what exciting things may happen… of which reminds me I did get very excited the other day when I got to take a call from the nurse at the Resort saying they had an EVAC for the RFD ( royal flying docs) and that they needed airstrip lights urgently… I felt very important relaying this coded message over the radio to head yardie Chris. The patient survived no doubt due to the excellent message passing on J.
Anyway that's about all from me, hopefully this will upload this time as the last time I tried it failed- humph.
