We drove west today alternating driving on I-40 and Historic US66. The weather is warm and sunny...what more could we ask?
The highlight of our day was a visit to the Acoma (accent on the first syllable) Sky City Pueblo about an hour west of Albuquerque. These Native Americans, members of the Anasazi tribe have lived on the 367 foot high mesa since the year 1150. Their numbers were decimated in the late 1500s when the Spanish conquistadores came through, but the pueblo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in North America. Theirs is a matriarchal society and the clan houses are passed down through the youngest daughter of the family.
The road to the top is steep and winding, the view is spectacular.
