NEW YEARS EVE!!! ...means FIREWORKS!!!
We were a bit keen and got down to the harbour at 9:30am! We didn't know how full it would be and we didn't want to be disappointed. We were there in plenty of time though and had our pick of where we wanted to sit. We chose to go to Campbell's Cove which is just left of the harbour bridge and we had the Opera House on our right! Prime position really! We set up camp and began our tag teams to go to get ice creams and water while the other person saved our spot! It was such a hot day and we were all greased up in SPF 30+. During our 15hour wait we read our book, played Pass the Pigs (thanks Brella!) and had a couple naps. It was really relaxing spending the day round the harbour. The area we were sat in filled up and was closed by half 4, it's was so busy. At about 6ish they had a couple of planes flying round the harbour doing tricks and Kylie Minogue was singing opposite us (across a bit of water) so we got a bit of a free concert too! At 9pm they had a 10minute firework display (for children), they came from darling harbour (behind the bridge for us) and either side of the opera house! They were pretty spectacular. Now we only had 3 hours to wait! The toilet queue took an hour so that passed some time. Haha. They let off a few fireworks every hour and the bridge changed colour every so often. The boats in the harbour were all lit up and they had people's new years resolutions projected onto the pylons of the bridge! There was a lot going on!
Finally, it was count down and it was incredible! Absolutely amazing!!! Definitely worth the wait! The fireworks went on for 20mins and the finale was the most spectacular thing ever! There were fireworks coming off the bridge, from either side of the Opera House, from behind the Bridge and even from some of the buildings behind us! We were surrounded by them.. And didn't have a clue where to look. It was unbelievable!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!
