Travel Blog of the Gaps
Hello again, Blogonauts!
Intrigued by the headline? Enticed to explore what I mean? Beginning to feel your mouth involuntarily water?
It is a tease, dear readers. For what the local Turks call "lokum," the English speaking world refers to as "Turkish Delight."
How could such a name not cultivate curiosity? And thus, numerous Istanbul stores and stalls sell boxed versions of these scrumptious, gummy, bite-sized confection cubes.
But it isn't just a name. They are indeed delightful, and so small that they are almost irresistible. Their flavors, colors, and ingredients vary widely, but their size and a powdery coating seem almost universal.
Some confection shops serve up lokum with their own unique recipes, and on our first night here we found a shop where it was easy to spend time ogling their handiwork ... and snapping photos.
They make a superb treat. The Turks serve them with coffee. I snatched up a few boxes to bring back with me, but if you want to join in the fun early, or live too far away to let me serve as a conduit of delight, find a nearby store that sells them.
I am still on a blogging frenzy, so watch for more to come soon.
