I decided to go on a free site seeing tour of England. The tour was arranged through the hostel (New Europe Tours). We had several people in our group and we walked to a park (Wellington Park I believe), where we met up with several other groups. They broke us up into groups based on our language. I could not believe the different number of groups! There was English, Spanish, German and Italian.
The tour was very well planned. It was a walking tour, so it took some time to get from one destination to another, but I had an opportunity to meet and chat with the others in our group. I met someone from Australia. He is also here travelling throughout Europe for 6 weeks!
The different sites we visited today included:
Buckingham Palace
Green Park
St. James Park
Westminster Abbey
10 Downing Street
The Houses of Parliment
Big Ben
Trafalger Square
and many more that I have forgotten!!
The tour guide was filled with interesting stories from their history. It's amazing how different Canadian history is from British history.
We finished the tour and picked up a baguette sandwich and ate as we walked and toured the city. We saw The London Eye, which basically is a giant Ferris Wheel overlooking the Thames River.
It was great to have someone to talk to throughout the day. We are planning to go on the Mystic Tour tomorrow which takes us to Stonehenge and many other historical sites. The only disadvantage is, we have to get up extremely early to catch the bus!
I'm definitely getting my exercise this week. I estimate at least 3 hours on average of walking!
