After only a few hours sleep, I managed to get up revived and ready to take on Rome.
I met a nice guy from Columbia who studies in Switzerland this morning. He was my flat mate here. He along with the over 2 people left this morning so I have the room to myself so far.
I ate breakfast and was out the door by 9 am. I did get a little lost on my way to the colleseum but quickly got back on track. It was about a 40 minute walk only because I made a few wrong turns. It should only have been 20 or so. There were several people there already. It cost 12 euro and decided not to get a tour guide because that way I could go at my own pace. It was remarkable to see this monstrous building and that it's survived so many centuries. Oh the stories it could tell if it could speak. So many people and animals died there. Huge columns lie on the ground inside. There is also a museum highlighting several items they found. Things like bone toothpicks. Seeds from olives and peaches. Animal bones, clay and glass artifacts. It was astonishing what they found.
I noticed several groups of students in groups learning about it. They were sitting down overlooking the center making notes and drawings. I can't help but think how fortunate the students in Europe are to have such rich and diverse experiences.
I then made my way to Trevi Fountain. It was getting much warmer out and I calculated it to be close by. On my way I stopped in and bought a pork and focaccia type sandwich. It was quite good. It hit the spot. I also bought a gelato. It was a bit too sweet for some reason.
Trevi Fountain was crowded with people so I took a few pictures and kept my visit short. I noticed some people drinking the water. I'm sure it's safe to drink.
I walked up the Spanish Steps located about 1 km away. Again this attraction was crowded. There was a fountain here as well and I quickly snapped some photos and left.
On my way back I picked up a sim card for my phone. I was told it would work but sadly it didn't. I spent money for nothing. Oh well live and learn.
I am back at the hostel. I'm going to take a nap and keep things simple for tonight.
Q3
How many steps are in the Spanish Steps?
