Sorry we have not updated this sooner but the main reason we havent is due to the fact that we wrote a new entry and the stupid computer we were on decided to switch off... thus wiping the message and we were so angry that the blog has been on the back burner!
Anyway a bottle of red vino down and we feel we can conquer the blog to update you to our recent movements - there has been quite a lot!
So where did we leave you... ah yes lovely Bonito... or should we say Beautiful Bonito (as that´s what Bonito means in Portuguese!). We decided to take a pit stop here before heading to the waterfalls as we had heard it was a brilliant place to visit for natural beauty - think natural crystal clear rivers you can snorkel down, magnificent caves and nature walks.
Unfortunately the morning of the only full day we had here it poured with rain, thunderstormed in fact and dearest Bonito was not so ´bonito´anymore! But on the plus side the tours turned out to be extremely expensive, its heavily conserved and therefore numbers are limited, you have to go with a guide and transport to the place is not included, for a backpacker that means pricey! We´re all for the conservation of the place so the prices can stay high but our decision was made easier! When the rain cleared we only had 1/2 a day left so we hopped on board a Dutch couples idea to rent some bikes and cycle to the closest park (and only place you can swim without a guide) to snorkel down a river absolutely brimming with fish! So a 14km round trip, swim, snorkel and burger ended up being a worthwhile day - admittely a little cold but for a fraction of the price it was fantastic!
Bonito also through up a lovely little eye opener in the form of GAS SHOWERS... you have never seen anything so ridiculous! Mainly because they state that the shower is simple to use... except it had a laminated A4 page worth of instructions on how to use it!! So desperate for a hot shower we ambled together an attempt to light the flame... "BOOF".... we almost singed the unthinkable as a ball of flame burst from the gas heater... scared for our lives it was a cold shower that night until we plucked up the courage to try again the next day, which were happy to say was more successful!
In fact we have a lot of fond memories from Bonito already. During the morning of rain we thought we spotted a lull and headed out to get money and food... 5 mins later we (ok Nikki) was soaked (Primark Jack in a Pack let me down!) and to get a timeout from the torrential downpour we headed to the cover of the front of a local supermarket. We sat along side the locals, listening to Venga Boys blasting out of the nightclub sized speakers, and it wasnt log before we grabbed a can of our favourite beer (Skol!) and watched the rain pass over.... this was all the 10 o´clock in the morning!
Then, the following day, together with Nynke and Haye (our Dutch friends) we headed to the bus station to make our 18 or so hour trip to the Iguazu Falls!
