Magnetic Island.....our stop for the Halloween full moon party.
We travelled up to Townsville, which despite it's name is actually quite a big city, as we hadn't booked accomodation we tagged along with Alex, Alex and Tash to their hostel. The guys moved on the next day to Magnetic Island but me and Rich had an extra night booked so spent the day in the rooftop pool then in the afternoon walked up a 'hill' called Castle Hill. It was not a hill.....it was a mountain and it was about 30 degrees, I actually thought I was going to die! We got up there in time for Sunset which was beautiful and we'd bought a beer each which was well deserved after the walk to get there!
The next day we got the ferry over to the island, we'd booked one night in Base with the guys and then the day of the full moon party we moved to YHA which had a koala reserve which we went along too. We paid extra and had our photo's taken with a koala (which are not bears but marsupials, related to wombats) his name was Barney! I loved him!! The girl taking the photo's went to take them to be printed but accidently deleted them, we had to have another picture taken so we got to hold him twice. He was a bit stinky! We also held a baby croc, some lizzards and a cockatoo which we fed seeds from our lips.
The next day, we hired mopeds but as I can't drive I had to ride on the back of Alex's. Rich had Tash on the back of his but crashed about 3 times with her on the back, she then refused to get back on the bike with him haha! We had such a good day and got to see lots of the island. We did a fort walk and saw lots of koala's in the wild.
The party was a Base and was a good night but I can imagine that the original Full Moon party in Thailand will be much better! At the party we also met up with Andy and Gareth who we'd met in Gagaju, then seen in Rainbow beach and Agnes water. We danced most of the night and watch the sunrise from the bus stop, it was very pretty.....exept for the hundereds of other drunken backpackers also waiting for the bus!
