Both evenings at Cafayate it was forecast for rain & thunder, we had none but we left under a grey sky and it didn't look too promising. The Vineyards were soon behind us and it looked like it was just going to be a flat uninteresting drive up the valley - little did we know. Soon we were amidst red sandstone mountains and the area was aptly named 'Los Colarodas'. The clouds parted and the sun started to cook us. We parked up and headed off on foot to explore. The rock colours and formations made certain the camera kept clicking. It didn't stop there, we parked up again and again for more spectacular landscapes including 'El Obelisco' which Donna renamed Hogwarts sorting hat. The Colorado / Arizona type landscape faded into green clad hills and we started to pass through towns. Kids were going back to school and it looked like a mass gathering of miniature scientists as the school uniform seems to be a white lab coat. We had plenty of time so we diverted to a large lake. There is a water sports centre here but everything seemed closed. Our last hurdle was the Salta traffic, we had left on a quiet Sunday morning but were arriving back mid week. We were before rush hour but the roads were chaos regardless. Donna our trustee driver was glad to hand the keys back. Great four day car tour, however we both looked forward to our next bus journey as someone else would be driving!
