We left the Gold Coast on 29th October. We had spent our last days there celebrating my birthday at the Hard Rock Café and the Bedroom club. It was a really fun place, very touristy but a lot of people call it the ‘LA’ of Australia as it’s overdone and perhaps a bit tacky but in my opinion. So far the Gold Coast is the only place in Australia I could possibly live (Sabina writing this by the way!)
Anyhow, we arrived in Sydney early that morning and rented a car for the day. We took a drive around the south of Sydney and to the National Park to see the views and beaches. Once 5pm hit we were able to move into our home for the next 2 weeks.
We stayed in a home share flat in Kingsford with a really amazing woman called Tracey. She had found our advert on Gumtree which was a relief as we would have been homeless or in a hostel otherwise. She was from the UK and I had a lot in common with her so for me it was nice to have a woman around to watch my chick flicks, gossip and talk about the soaps and celebrity news. She really made us feel at home and for once we were able to stay in, cook and relax.
Sydney itself was a beautiful city. We did the usual tourist things such as walking over and taking millions of pictures of Sydney Harbour Bridge. We went to the Opera house, Botanical Gardens, Darling Harbour, and Circular Quay. In the Botanical Gardens we came across a good few bat trees which looked a bit spooky but we found it quite fascinating to watch the hundreds of bats just hanging there. We also saw about 10 weddings all in the one day in the space of 2 hours in the same spot of the park – not my idea of a special day!
We had met Tony’s University friend Sami and her husband John in Surfers Paradise the week before and thankfully they had given us a good list of things to do in Sydney which we worked our way through and found very useful. We did part of the Bondi Beach – Bronte Beach walk, went to the Max Brennan chocolate shop and had chocolate strawberries; went to the Sydney Fish Market and had a healthy and very fresh fish lunch. We had one proper evening out In Sydney, in which we had dinner by the water at Circular Quay, went drinking and to a show in Kings Cross and had a very late but fun evening. However, it ended badly when I sat on a wall to change my shoes and sat in some disgusting persons vomit – I was not pleased!
Other than the main tourist attractions we also went to a couple of the markets which all do such fresh and amazing food and pretty little trinkets which we couldn’t buy as our backpacks are bursting at the seams! We also went to the Aquarium and got to see huge sharks and stingrays and found our inner child in the kids drawing area.
We made good use of our 2 weeks in Sydney having a mix of full on tourist days and chill out days. We both really enjoyed the city, the good weather (when it was good) and the company we had but of course we are still missing you all back home!
