Jonathan, Luke and I arrived in trujillo at 6am. Our bus journey was awesome because we went with Cruz Del Sur, who are the premium bus company in Peru. It meant we had dinner, our own TV with a choice of movies or games etc... as well as Wifi, blankets and free headphones!
Having been assaulted by taxi drivers upon arrival we found somewhere for some breakfast and booked a bus ticket for that evening to Mancora because the tourist attractions do not open until 9am. After a rather unsatisfying breakfast we took a taxi to Huacas de los Sol Y Luna. These are ancient adobe buildings built by pre-Inca civilsations and are nearly 2000 years old! The ruins themselves were quite impressive, but for some reason we all had it in our heads that they were going to be incredible, so were left slightly disappointed.
After we got the taxi to the Chan Chan ruins, but coukd no longer afford the services of a guide between us, so I don't know much about the ruins. I do know that they are very old, but not as old as the other ruins and they are huge. The Chan Chan ruins are the remnents of an old city and cover a total of 36km squared!! We did have fun making up own stories and possible theories for each part of the ruins though.
By 1pm we were back in Trujillo, which is not a particularly pleasant city and thus we had a lot of time to kill before our bus at 9pm that night! A lot of tme was spent slowly sipping either a coffee or beer in Wifi zones or sitting in the park until it was time to leave. We were disappointed to see that the bus we were getting that evening was no where near the standard of Cruz Del Sur so had an uncomfortable 8 hour journey ahead of us!
