Toms Intrepid Travels
Into Queensland we went...the sunshine state! Southern queensland is very much the most populated part and is mainly a collection of high rise towns and cities such as the Gold Coast.
On the Oz bus though, we stopped at a little town called Nimbin, the drugs and hippie capital of Oz! I think i got offered weed about ten times in ten minutes! It was like stepping back in time to the sixties! We also went round a gorgeous national park in the rainforest and checked out some cool waterfalls.
In surfers, we had every backpackers dream....free accomodation and food, and laundry! yes indeed, i had contacted Karen, a friend from the Vietnam trip who lived in Surfers, and she had offered meyself, Joe and Phil a place to stay for a couple of nights. We even had a steak BBQ and a roast dinner! Lovely. In the day in between, we went to Dreamworld, Australia's largest theme park. It was a good day for reboosting of adenalin, after the hangovers of Byron Bay!
After sadly leaving Karen, we headed on into Brisbane. Now there isn't an awful lot to do in Brisbane, it's just a city. But it was close to Australia Zoo, the home of steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, so we paid it a visit! It was a great day out, meeting kangaroos and koalas, tigers and crocodiles.....even a 174 giant tortoise!
Next up, we ae heading into the moe northen parts of Queensland....and thankfully it is starting to wam up a teat!
