Bangkok is a crazy busy city with a lot to offer, and we've been busy! :D
Instead of checking into our hotel we decided to go for a wander to try and book train tickets to Nong Khai for the weekend, but instead we ended up chatting to very friendly little thai man who worked for the government tourist office (very handy!) and he told us where to go! He also organised a tuktuk to take us there, along with taking us to a few other attractions in the local area. He also organised the price (again very handy, and proved that we'd been majorly ripped off with our first taxi!)
So we ended up going to see the Lucky Budda temple and also the Big Budda temple (which also had standing and lying down Budda - busy chap!) which were beautiful. We hope to get some pictures up soon, we just need some wifi.
Today...well it is VERY hot. Even the locals were remarking how hot is was. So after our morning swim (in our rooftop pool!) we thought we might get some cooler air by the river... and we were right! It also offered some excellent (75p!) lunch on the way. After walking about for a bit, we got a ferry/water taxi/boat thing down the river, passing the Grand Palace and all sort of other lovely looking things and made a guess which stop to get off at. ... Well i'm not sure we picked a good one, couldn't really find much apart from hotels and a strangely deserted shopping centre (which was air conditioned) so we stayed for a bit and then got a boat back. Although it wasnt all bad we got yummy fruit shakes and I (Charlie) got scared by a massive lizard thing!
We've got a very early start tomorrow to begin the next leg of our journey. We're taking the train to the North of Thailand, to Chiang Mai where we're going to go elephant trekking and river rafting! (Not to Nong Khai as we had originally planned, apparently the train was sold out...not convinced though.) Then the plan is to then get to Loas by slowboat (which apparently takes us nicely through immigration), which takes 2 days. So we should be in Luang Prabang by the 13/14th.
We hope to have wifi soon so we can get pics up for you guys!
Lots of Love
