Woke up at around 7am at the hostel and prepared to get ready to leave by bus to reach the Mekong Delta (South of Ho Chi Min) we stopped off at various places on the way, including a place with huge Buddha statues. The 3 Buddha statues were: standing buddah, sleeping buddah and happy buddah (real inventive names right?) they each represented a part of life that people would go and pray for. The sheer size of the statues was pretty incredible, hard to take in at first and difficult to get the scale with photos. We also stopped off at a rather impressive padaga with monks in that had some impressive interior statutes and design. From there we got a boat to have a traditionally local lunch and from there on to coconut island. Here they harvested coconuts and used them to make all kinds of things. Including sweets, whiskey, utensils and skin products. After that we went on traditional Vietnamese paddle boats through the mangroves to bee island, where they made local honey. Had a taste of that with fresh fruit and a quick display of local music. They had a ole that of bizarre instruments and the music was rather entertaining. We got back on our tour bus and came to Canto city where we are staying the night. Went out for a meal on a boat with two people we met and got friends with on the trip, Austin and Elina. Headed home with a few beers on the way and recharging for an early morning to the floating markets tomorrow.
