Tom and Becky Down Under!
From Lake St.Clair we passed through the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park via Lake Burbury where some filming held us up. We headed through Queenstown, a heavily mined area of western Tasmania onto the Henty Sand dunes north of Strahan where we went quad biking across the dunes..... It was sooooo fun, but tom and i got pulled aside and told off for holding back and then tear-arsing off. From the dunes we headed to Cradle Mountain where we took an hours helicopter ride over cradle mountain and the surrounding area. We stopped off mid flight next to one of the steepest gorges in Australia, over 1000m. Following the flight, we headed to Dove Lake, next to the mountain and went on a 6km walk around it. On our way there, we passed another wombat, only in attempt to get up close and take a pic, a mighty great leech attached itself to my leg!! Oh my god, they're so disgusting!! We spent the night at the O'neils Creek Picnic reserve where we had a bored game of "make up a joke quick"....here's tom's winning entry - "Why did the wombat cross the road?"......"Because he couldn't fit throught the wombat by-pass silly!!"
Wednesday (21/12) saw us in another cave, this time, the Marakoopa caves east of cradle mountain. Our stoner guide was a bit of a legend, and having turned off all the lights showed us the huge display of glow worms in the main cave, awesome!
Onto dismal swamp, which tom later named dismal dump!! A swamp into which you took a 100 metre slide to get to the bottom at a speed of 40km/hour. The idiot at the top gave both of us the wrong instructions leading us both to jolt our necks..... We got a refund and made a hasty exit seeing one of the biggest moths we've ever seen on the way out.
Via the town of Penguin next, home of the Big Penguin, donned in santa cloak for the run up to christmas, and onto the Ferry back to Melbourne, economy style!!
