Namaste Everybody! 4 weeks in India and that's all the only bit of Indian language I know, too cultured I know...
So we are now in Delhi...well we're actually in Bangkok but for continuity and to wrap things up Amy says I should write a Delhi blog first!
Since the last blog where we were still in Goa, we had a couple more days chilling on the beach, lazing around and hiring mopeds going really slowly at my passengers insistance :o) From there we took a plane up to Delhi...
First impressions of Delhi were a lot higher than Mumbai prpbably beacuse we've got used to the place now, still a very busy Indian city, but with areas which are striving to become more western. There's a lot of development going off all over the place, massive 5 star hotels going up, fancy shopping malls, etc. all with no regard to the thousands of poor street people begging everywhere living literally in s***, still progress ay...
We only had 3 days or so in Delhi, so time was spent shopping and sending things home. I've had a thought since I came here to buy a Harmonium, we looked all aftenoon at a street with what felt like a million music shops, but we finally got one sorted. The guys I bought from were a couple of very nice Sikh brothers who'd had the shop in the family for about 50 years. The older brother talked our ears off for about an hour and a half, nothing about Harmoniums mind, just loads of life advice about how to realign your ions with mediatation bowls. He also recommended to Amy that whenever she feels down or like crying that she should go to a park hug a tree and shout for half an hour or so (the wood absorbs the negativity you see), how she looked him in the eye and went 'oh right..I'll have to try that' without breaking out laughing i'll never know. I'm very sceptical about how I realign my ions...
Our flight was at 1am on the 15th, so after some bartering we managed to get a car and driver to take us to see the Taj Mahal for valentines day. The trip was very long about 6 hours each way but the Taj was amazing and well worth the trip... Not as big as you'd think. We managed to get on the prime photo bench after barging past several Indian familys (no one queues here and we were getting in the spirit) we got our photo with the Taj in the background. I asked what appeared to be a sensible looking western guy, who looked liked he could take a photo to snap us...all three came out wonky but you get the idea, expect the photos soon!
Love Tom and Amy xxx
