Sky Jumping, Bad Hair and Smelly Apartments
So our first stint in Auckland has come to an end and we're now in the Bay of Islands. Our final few days in Auckland were definitely interesting. I (Tom) decided to get a hair cut. The hostel advertised free haircuts at a local barbers. Too good to be true you would think and you would be right.
If anyone has seen the old advert where the guy gets a Lionel Blair cut, then this is what the guy who cut my hair was like. A three year old with no control of his limbs would have done a better job than the monstrosity that adorns my scalp now. Ho hum. Oh yeah, he also drew blood on my neck. Seriously, the guy was useless.
So after that ordeal we decided to jump off the Sky Tower to end it all. Abi convinced me it would be better to have a wire attached, as it was a lot of money to simply finish life there and then. So we did the Sky Jump from Auckland's Sky Tower the 'normal' way. 630 feet base wire jump. Was tres cool and will definitely be doing that again. Wasn't scared standing on the platform looking down... much. Think they needed to wash the jump suit afterwards though.
We're going to spend Christmas in Auckland, so are trying to find work in the city after we've spent time in the Bay of Islands. We thought it would be cool to rent a flat with some other people, as it is much cheaper that way. We went and viewed a flat. Let's just say that the flat smelt of feet and sex. Not sure if the feet are involved in the sex part, but the smell wasn't pleasant. Also, there were four people in the flat sharing one bed, so we guessed the flat was cheap as it might have been a brothel or something. We. Left. Quickly. After having seen the film Hostel, we decided we valued our lives and this flat was too dodgy.
Anyhow, we're now in the Bay of Islands ready to swim with Dolphins. Abi can't wait and I'm a bit apprehensive as my 22 month old niece can swim better than me. Abi will be swimming alongside the Dolphins like a mermaid, cutting through the water with ease and I'll be flapping around like a distressed seal. Should be fun though.
Anyhow, check out our new photos.
Goodbye for now.
