Wineglass Bay, Freycinet National Park. We drove overnight to get to Freycinet- very aware that time was slipping away and that we had only 10 days to see the East coast, Launceston and the Tamar valley. Oscars birthday was on the 30th of March and we needed to find a quiet spot to celebrate for a couple of days. The lack of time regardless of how long one had planned for the trip seemed to be an ongoing theme from all the other travellers we spoke with. Four weeks, or four months, everyone had things they wanted to return to one day, places they would have stayed for longer.
Wineglass Bay is one of those places for us. The semicircular sweep of crystalline sand, cradling the clear, turquoise sea is possibly one of the most recognisable images of Tasmania and we were lucky to see it on a lovely sun drenched day. There were several yachts out in the bay, no doubt peopled with wealthier tourists than us, tucking into smoked salmon and champagne. One day, I said to Tom, we will return and spend an anniversary doing just that as well- its in writing now!
