When you live in one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, going on holiday doesn't have quite the same connotation. Apart from trips back to Europe, and the occasional tour around the Western Cape, this is our first holiday for some time. The fact we had three whales 200m off the shore in front of us, while watching a beautiful sunset last night explains the predicament!
So, why this itinerary? We have always wanted to go to Bhutan. The travel God, Michael Palin did a series on The Himalayas and Bhutan looked fantastic in festival season. It's not cheap, in that they have a minimum spend per day, however, it is unique. Nepal has also been on the bucket list since learning to spell Kathmandu. The romance of Mount Everest lives within us all. We are huge cricket fans and the IPL is a massive festival of T20 with the world's biggest stars. We shall be going to two games, one in Jaipur, a magical city, and Hyderabad, which we've not visited before. This is also the case with Kolkata, which is why it's on the itinerary. We are routing through Mumbai coutesy of a recommendation by Gagan Seksaria, who told us of the great deals from Johannesberg with Air Seychelles, which explains our last stop, on the islands, for a little R&R after the frenetic tour!
Quite a fun pack this one, trekking, sightseeing, sport, beach, respectful, chilly and humid! I intend to update at least once a week, to put some photos up for those who find reading a chore, and look forward to your company!
