A few simple observations about Turks:
1. Never ask a Turk if he is an Arab! They aren't Arabs. Actually they are decendants of Seljuk Turks who came to the Anatolia plains of Turkey from Mongolia to escape the wrath of Genghis Khan. They consider Arabs "dirty" people.
2. Don't ever drink Raka, the Turkish version of Pernod, with them. Stick to scotch - you'll feel better in the morning.
3. Don't bother to ask for ice. Ice must be a national treasure. An ice cube is as valuable as a gold nugget! When ordering a drink they actually ask you how many ice cubes you want. "I'd like a double gin and tonic on the rocks," I ask. "Rocks?" is his reply. "Ice, you know, frozen water!" "Yes, I understand, double gin with two ice cubes," he says proudly. "Lets make that four ice cubes!" And he brings four ice cubes!

Koray Well, first of all you're right. We aren't Arabs :) But we don't consider Arabs "dirty" people.. Its a bad generalization Second, if you aren't used to it, don't drink Raki or else you'll feel like you've been beaten by Mike Tyson in the morning if you drink enough.. Third, probably the waiter doesn't know what on the rocks means.. And in general if you put too much ice in a drink it may be considered a bad thing.. We have a glass of coke filled with ice.. Which means, the restaurant puts too much ice in order to give us less coke :)) I mean some people may think like that.. I don't know.. It's fun to read your blog by the way :)
