Hello again!
We've made the long drive down the middle of Australia all the way to Adelaide.
We spent 3 nights in Kakudu national park, we went on a really good tour to see the jumping crocs on the adelaide river (check out www.jumpingcrocodilecruises.com.au to find out about the tour). We saw lots of rock art and loads of bird life in the national park. It was a long drive down to Alice Springs, nothing to see on the way, advice to anyone coming here don't bother visiting Tennants Creek! Devils Marbles just above Alice were really good, its just a random collection of big round boulders which are fun to climb, but can be hard to get back down (ask Tish!)
We went on a 3 day tour to Kings Canyon, the Olgas and Ayers Rock. We slept in swags around a campfire and did a few walks around the sites and got our Uluru sunset shots. (check out www.therocktour.com.au, photo gallery, our tour was 9th July to see pics). We went to the Camel Cup in Alice Springs which was good fun, our guide from our tour was racing and actually won a race.
On the drive further south we've seen lots of wild camels (thanks to Tish's amazing calling technique!) and Emus, Dingoes and lots of birds! We stayed at Coober Pedy in an underground hostel. Its a really weird town, they have houses underground because its too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. There are 250,000 mine shafts around the town so its a bizzarre landscape, they even have a golfcourse on the dirt with no grass!
The Barossa valley and Adelaide Hills north of Adelaide were really nice and we tried lots of wines and gourmet food. Its very green down here compared to the outback. Its even been raining today, but we hadn't seen rain since about May so can't complain!
