Hey everyone!
This week, we have been supervising the children's exams from Wed to Fri. The system is pretty disorganised! There is lots of mistakes in the exams, we felt sorry for the kids because a lot of questions didn't make sense. The English one was especially error-strewn and a lot of the teachers don't speak good English, which is a bit of a problem when they are coming up with the marking scheme! One question in a maths exam was "How much does a Hen normally weigh?" which was quite amusing! We also had to mark their papers which was really dull. The kids seem very indifferent to the whole exam process, they all look so bored when they are taking the exams and don't even get excited when it finishes. They go to the toilet and disappear for about 15 mins, they think they can take advantage of us because we are not proper teachers. We had to put our foot down!
This weekend the weather has been scorching! we've both got red faces now! it's pretty funny! 2 other local children's homes came to Huruma on Saturday to play a sports tournament. They played volleyball and basketball, Huruma won every game, both girls and boys! It was good fun. We met people from the other homes and may go and visit them as well while we are here.
We've been enjoying most of the food, Tish doesn't like Ugali (It looks like mash potato but is made with starch or something like that and needs a lot of salt to taste even ok!) but we both love chippatti! (They are kind of like pancakes and are very yummy). On Sunday morning we had mandazi, which are a bit like doughnuts but not as sweet. they are really nice when they are fresh and warm!
We watched Derby v Chelsea on TV and were glad to see it was raining in England! haha. Hope everyone is well x
