Well, hello people! As you can probably tell from the link to this postcard, we are still in effing Kunming! Though we are going to Beijing tommorow. Hooray! Though the hotsel I tried to make a reservation with (the only one offering a free transport pick up) cannot execpt my 2 day in advange reservation because they are full! Boo! So tommorow, we are now gonna be making our way to a hostel with vacancies (don't know which on yet), from the airport, in hope that we don't pay too much 'Ive just arrived and deserve a good fleecing tax' I would like to take this opportunity to reccomend anyone from travelling around China during high season. It is wildly difficult to get any kind of transport without booking days or even weeks in advance, thus eradicating the freedom of travelling and the fun of improvisation. Hostels/guesthouses are almost always fulll (often with locals who enjoy a bit of karaoke, shouting and of course clearing thier lungs of phlegm; all at 7 am), the staff don't really care if you are there or not because there are plenty of other suckers willing to stay in your overpriced, crowded dorm. How we yearn for the days when the lovely people of Thailand would beg us to stay in their guesthouses for next to nothing, because it was low season, and getting from A to B involved jumping on a bus/train/boat/bizzare Asian vehicle, whenever we could be bothered to get up. Anyway, we are off to Beijing at about 4.30am tommorow and we are really looking forward to it and are gonna cram in as much fun as possible, because it is back to reality (for a while anyway) very soon.
