Hello from Beijing; our last stop! We arrived here two days ago by plane (still gutted about having to fork out the extra money for the flight, though we did get a free wallet!) We are staying in a really nice little hostel with the most comfortable bed i've had since i've been away, and the cheapest beer at about 11p a pint!!! Yesterday we ventured to the forbidden city and Tiananmen square along with all the other thousands of Chinese tourists, and today we went to Beijing zoo which was great as zoo's go. There are signs all over the zoo warning people not to feed the animals. But the Chinese people take no notice of these signs whatsoever and so all zoo animals are on a diet of nuts, crisps and bread. We even saw a few people pouring Fanta into the mouths of the bears, and a gorilla had been treated to a cornetto! The bears were so used to receiving food from the visitors that they have learned tricks in order to get their rewards, pretending to pray with their paws and spinning in circles on their hind legs! Not much else to report, except that we are feasting on Peking duck tonight...and 11p beers of course! Claire x
