Saturday 14th Feb,
1st stop local food hut for the best Pad Thai in the Siam Kingdom!!
After a delicious lunch Adam went off to Surin Beach for some sun and sea with a group of friends (see pics – Dan, Steve, Ash and Tash). Trish was still suffering from a touch of sunburn from Penang so opted for Manicure, Pedicure, hair straightening and chill time action in Bang Tao instead! After lots of chill time and Trish feeling prettier after all the hours spent being thrown around on a minivan and sleep deprived it was off into the hills on the mopeds to Dave’s stunning hilltop bungalow for a BBQ. Copious amounts of Barbie meat (Samsong pork, Lamb and Steak) yummy salads, huge prawns Gin, Beer, Malibu and wine was followed by stacks of fun, singing, guitar playing, dancing and swimming in pants.
Sunday 15th Feb,
Met with a bleary eyed Tash and Steve for some more pad Thai and some soup noodles for Trish (surprise, surprise) then back on the mopeds and down to the beautiful Nai Thon Beach for more chilling!
Spent the evening just the two of us having dinner at the riverside restaurant as it was the day after Valentines and today we have been together 18 months. A delicious meal of Fish cakes and Tom Kha to start followed by Massaman curry and Chang time!! Dinner was kindly provided by our Friends Paul and Sophie as a gift before we left so, as we had change and it wasn’t our budget we indulged in cocktails at the hut bar which is run by yet another x-pat, Paul from Canterbury – absolutely top guy who very kindly at 10 o clock at night sent someone off to get a Thai sim card for us to help keep things cheap and easy for us – Super Obliging – Thanks Paul- Nice One!!
A couple of awesome Pina Coladas and Mai Thai’s later and a wobbly walk home (Trish being chased by stray dogs) and to bed contented and well fed.
Monday 16th February
We couldnt possibly start the day any other way, it was Pad Thai time! Trish had the delight of sampling this fine dish today as we busted out our first sentace in Thai! 'Pad thia gai mai sai kai' For those of you that dont speak thai this translates to chicken pad thai with no egg, we rule!! This was our last day in Phuket and we needed to book the boat to Ko Lanta, our next destination. On steves advice we walked the 30 minute danger walk (pretty narrow road with lots of big trucks on) to Surin to 'the closest cash point' quote steve in the mid day heat! Arrived got cash and had a nice fruit punch on the beach before the long walk back. Booked the boat in Bang Toa and celebrated with beer. Walking to the beach to watch the sunset Adam was invited to join a game of keepy uppy with some locals, fun as it was he sucked arse at it! When we rounded the corner to the beach what do we see.... a cash point! A mere 5 minute walk from where we were staying, thanks steve!! Had a lovely Thai meal at the riverside to say thanks and farewell to dan. Finished the evening at the hut bar.
Tuesday 17th February
Proper early start today, we had a boat to catch! Tiger the travel agents husband (how awesome is that name!?) drove us to the pier and arranged our tickets for us. Was a nice 3 hour boat trip to Ko lanta, via the beautiful island of Phi Phi amoungst others. Dans brother Liam (who i also met in australia on my previous travels) met us at the jetty and tooks us back tom our beach bungalow he has arranged. Were staying on long beach, and i literally mean staying on the beach! Perfect sea view from our verrader, its beautiful! Crystal clear, turquios water is a mere stones throw away, and the cost... 3 quid each a night!!! Had a lush thai lunch right on the beach and chilled out catching up with Liam. Had our dinner in the same place and caught an early night, could certainly get used to this life style!!
