Arrived in KL on 3rd Jan and were very excited to see shops, restaurants and (im ashamed to say) robin was thrilled to see McDonalds! After everything being closed in Vientiane it was nice to see a bit if civilisation.
We had an hour and a half bus ride from the airport into the city centre and it was scorchio! Our hotel was between china town and little india with a view over the city.
We headed straight out for a walk around china town and down Petling street market where everyone tries to sell you badly faked sunglasses, tshirts, purses, etc. we then headed to Reggie bar for a drink (they really love Bob marley in SE Asia!).
On Wednesday we spent the day looking around the city and shops (Much to Robins dismay). The Petronas Towers (see pic) were pretty cool, especially because they had a huge shopping centre at the bottom full of designer shops like Gucci, Prada, Cartier, they also had an RBS office next door - which of course I went in to and helped them out with a couple of projects, wrote a few PowerPoint presentations, oh wait hang on, I was going to do that but somehow ended up in Prada looking at handbags, I'm easily distracted!
After the towers we got lost and pretty much walked around the entire city looking for the central market, which turned out to highly disappointing, full of lots of pointless tat...which I of course purchased and will bring home for you all ;) we did have some nice satay in a restaurant there though which is apparently Malysias national dish so ticked that off the list!
After a few hours walking around we had to go for a drink as it was so hot, if you stood still it actually felt like your might burst into flames, my skin actually stung when the sun hit it (and no it's not because I was already sunburnt, although as I write this in Bali I am currently looking quite lobster-esq).
We went out for an evening in Chinatown and sat at one of the makeshift bars in the market drinking beer and ropey red wine until we decided to move on to Reggae bar for even ropier blue drinks...I did not feel good when we got up at 6am for our flight to Bali!
As a quick stop over KL was ok, not the best city, but were looking forward to hitting the beach, Bali here we come.
