Weather was better today. After a slow start we got moving around 1pm and explored the city centre, including various squares, Szent Istvan Cathedral (one of the best I saw on the trip so far), the outside of the Parliament building, and the Shoe Memorial by the Danube River, commemorating where many people were shot and disposed of during Nazi Occupation.
Another memorial we accidentally stumbled upon was an anti-nazi monument that portrayed Hungary as a victim - rather than a collaborator - with the Nazis. A protest movement had begun there recently to clarify this 'editing of history', although it isn't being received very well by the current conservative nationalist government. I had read about this previously, however I'd forgotten about it, so it was cool to find it by accident.
