We just came back from Mach Picchu yesterday after a 4 day trek which was awesome even though it rained for 2 of them. Still, its not as if we were slumming it as crazy porters ran up and over the mountains with all our stuff (while only wearing sandals) and then set up our tents and prepared our 3 course meals!
