An early start as a long days drive to cross the border into Zambia. We had a small detour (extra 100km) as Driver Dave missed a turning. At lunch we were offered local cuisine (mice on a stick) but as they weren't cooked we declined. Also witnessed Driver Dave having to explain to police that his licence was perfectly legitimate as the vehicle is a "truck" as opposed to a "bus".
Observation: as we have driven through Tanzania & Malawi there have been multi-tudes of police check points. One local in Malawi said they were checking trucks for illegal immigrants. Others seemed to be checking licences, road logs and customs entry forms. Driver Dave said they're trying it on to see what they can get out of you. Most of the time we get waved through ... nothing like a truck full of foreigners with internet access to stem the flow of shake downs ;-)
The border crossing was relatively painless. We went individually to be stamped out of Malawi and then walked across no-mans land to be stamped into Zambia before getting back on the truck.
A short drive later and a 30 minute stop at the local Spar supermarket we were at camp as the sun set. Putting our tents up in the dark is fun!
