Having woken at 0200 to watch the hippos eating around our tents (they're very loud and we stayed in the tent watching them through the window) the campsite packed down and we were off at 0700 for a morning game drive through the vastness of Queen Elizabeth National Park. As the sun rose we saw more elephant herds, warthog families, waterbuck & Ugandan kob. I enjoyed being in the midst of such endless wilderness.
We then drove through every road work in Uganda (or at least that is how it seemed). One stretch was the equivalent of a main artery of 30-40km all being completely reworked at once. When we stopped for lunch - which includes getting out tables, washing up bowls, chopping boards, crockery & cutlery - we had our usual local audience. We always stop in the middle of nowhere. And people - usually children and men on motorbikes - appear to watch us from a distance for the entire time. We are definitely the entertaining news for the day as we travel through towns and villages. Tessa & I are enjoying seeing glimpses of local life and pulling together themes that help us understand how the world works for the people we exchange waves & smiles with. Most people show a positive curiousity although we've had a few rude gestures and one person threw a rock at the truck.
We paused for an hour in the town of Kabale and had a wander around. Dusty roads, small local shops - workshops, tailors, bakers, bric-a-brac. Our campsite is 10 minutes drive outside town. We are in the foothills of mountains with lovely views.

Sue It's really lovely to share your holiday. I can imagine being there myself and it brings back to mind the South African safaris we had in 1983!
