Started our final day of week 10 of this journey with the final border crossing into our 10th country - South Africa. A simple exit from Namibia and a bureaucratic entry to South Africa, including police check of the serial numbers of all our electronic goods ... with 23 people on the truck and multiple cameras, iPads & laptops you can imagine how much time that took. Thankfully no one was carrying stolen goods. Also it turned out that none of us is wanted by Interpol at this time ;-)
180 km drive later and we were at the town of Springbok, the "home" of South African rugby. Shopped for supplies and left again. 300 km through beautiful countryside with miles of unique wild flowers led us to the vineyards of Klawer on the banks of the Oliphant River. Here we stayed at a vineyard where we won the race to pitch tents for the final time (that's what 70 days practice does for you). We celebrated with our first experience of tasting the range of wines South Africa offers. I preferred the Chenin Blanc and the Shiraz, disliked the rose bubbles and enjoyed imbibing the port-like roiboos infused vermouth.
Ali had prepared our final campfire meal with pre-cooked chicken and coleslaw. Keep it simple. Heiko made mulled wine which was much appreciated as temperatures had dropped dramatically once we crossed the border! We returned to the bar for further wine and dancing ... and rounded off the night by breaking the record for winter-time group skinny dipping - led by our wise Canadian male. However we have no photographic evidence so this event didn't really happen ;-)
