Today was a short drive to get us to the Orange River which is the border between Namibia & South Africa. We stopped to change money to Rand and to do grocery shopping if required. We decided to change all we budgeted for South Africa now as we are now in a world that charges significant commission and expects passport identification in order to change cash.
The campsite is on the banks of the river and at arrival we changed our clocks forward an hour to SA time as that is what the campsite runs on despite being on the Namibian side of the river. We spent the afternoon canoeing down the river - covering 10 km in a couple of hours. At the first pause Tessa went for a swim in the rapids - quite hard work to make it back to the bank. Vikki entertained herself by trying to splash attack Ben but only succeeded in drenching his canoe pal, Melissa. The second pause was on the banks of South Africa - technically we were all illegal ;-). Although we were going with the current as we paddled the second half was into a strong head wind so a work out as well as being enjoyable time in a stunning environment.
