The morning of the first day of the Thirties Chapter. HOLY CRAP!
Well Jemma, made it special for me bless her! She blew up a load of balloons in her little bedroom, brought coffee walnut cake with her in her bag all the way from Dubai and we had champagne for breakfast at 7AM! What a fab way to start .. as I mean to go on!
Face time calls and holding back the emotional tears along with opening cards and presents. I had a Friends t-shirt from Jem 'the one where Beth turns 30' haha love it, returning the favour from when I got one for Jim on her 30th.
We skipped breakfast at the hotel as the cake and champagne filled us up, our little man driver was waiting for us ready to take us up the road to Tiki Beach Club, the entire way there he played a Tanzanian version of Happy Birthday song to me with the windows down so the locals could hear every word haha. It was going to be a good day with lots of booze!
The beach club was new and we were the first two to arrive so we had the free will to anywhere we wanted in the beach club, to which we took a pew by the pool. Ideal photo opportunities, free cocktails because it was my birthday, the blue drinks looked strong before they reached us but tasted alright. Lots of photos and sunbathing, enjoying the fact that I am in paradise on my Birthday, most people my age are at home in the rain with three kids and their husband celebrating their 30th (now there is nothing wrong with that of course) but I feel as though this is one I will remember with very fond memories of for a long time!
Lots of beers and Rum and food by the pool, we later moved across to the beach bar when the sun went down a little, the day went by very fast actually and we were often double or triple parked throughout the day due to all the free cocktails they wanted us to try.
We had pizza to finish the day with alcohol munchies and the need for salt, back to the hotel hut for 7pm to which we both fell asleep at 8PM in bed as we were so drunk and tired. What a great boozy day! haha.
Day 5 and day two of the thirties, it was time to travel back to Dubai, but before we got to the airport we had time for pit stop in the morning and lunch at Maalum Cave, basically a fresh water sink hole that is hundreds of years old with crystal clear waters, trees, vines and peacefulness around and in it. Again, we were firsts to arrive and we made most of the beautiful picturesque area for some photos and to chill. Trying to climb a vine did not work for me but Tarzan Jane managed it a little bit.
After pruning ourselves in the water we headed back up the little hill to the tranquil bar and restaurant area, finishing up the last of our currency I had just enough for a meal and two beers. Jemma had tuna tartare, she isn't very good with raw fish or fish in general anyways so eating this I am not sure was her best choice. Content with trying all the local beers I could get my hands on in Zanzibar and with time running out we headed back to the airport across the island and bid farewell to this beautiful island and hopefully return again soon.
