Friday 18 April
The shortest ride yet to our next destination as we go just 15 miles further north on the Sklyine Drive to Skyland Cabins to try out another type of accommodation on the Skyline as, at these cabins, there is no need for matches and firewood. But before we pack up and leave Lewis Mountain we take a last walk around the camp and bump into another couple on a motorcyle and see from their licence plate they are from New York state. After more introductions we learn that Dennis and Cookie are from Rochester in NY state and invite us to join them for breakfast. We decline but do get chatting and loose track of time so much so that with 10 mins before check out we have to rush back, pack and load the bike but not before swapping contact details and promising to be in touch with Dennis and Cookie on our way to Niagara. More phone numbers for the "little black book".
Saturday 19 April
A complete first for both of us today as we take a horse ride in the Shenandoah National Park. After a brief instruction on how to make our horses stop, go, turn left and right we are off on our hour long ride. First impression - we can't believe how high up we are but it doesn't take long to feel at ease although we are only moving at walking pace and the horses do follow each other so not much "steering" is required. Obviously one horse power is pretty different to what we are used to but we definitely enjoy our first ever horse ride.
In in the afternoon we take a ride off the Sklyine into the small town of Lury - famous for its caverns - but just to do a little email "house-keeping" at the local library. Looks like quite a nice small town.
