Sunday 20 Jan
The roads from Twenty Nine Palms to Yuma are long and straight but then, just north of Blythe, we have our first sighting of the Colarado River and suddenly we see green fields and one with sheep! At Blythe we take the I 10 a short distance and this sees us leaving California and entering Arizona. Amazingly as soon as we are in Arizona we see tall Cactus, not seen until now. Off the interstate again for the last piece of our journey for today- Quartzsite to Yuma. Quartzsite is a very surprising little town and is packed with people and so many RVs (recreational vehicles) everywhere. The most people and traffic we have seen all week. We eventually arrive at Yuma, which again is quite a busy town and tonight we are only 20 miles from the Mexican border. We are glad to get here as we are feeling pretty tired after the long, straight roads but also due to the fact that we didn't get much sleep last night being awakened by the, shall we say, "oh my God" chorus from our neighbours at our motel!
So, we have come to the end of the first week on the road - 1100 miles, fuel economy on the bike is very good, the weather has been almost perfect and we have said seeya to California and howdy to Arizona.
