I could have put any number of amazing photos for today's blog. Even with cloud the scenery was fantastic.
After lazy start relishing the space we now have. No offence boys. We set off into the village of Lauterbrunnen and caught the cable car to Grutshcalp (just in case you're getting your maps out!). This gets you up from the village so you walk on the 'shelf' that runs high along the side of the valley.
Cows with bells, alpine flowers, little wooden chalets/barns and jaw dropping views. We stopped and bought some local cheese direct from the farm all before coffee at what must be one of those ski restaurants in winter. On then to Murren for picnic lunch and people watching; guess the nationality. Did you know that Sir Something or Other invented slalom ski racing in Murren.....interesting?
Then walked down to the valley. Took us through some truly picturesque villages. Quite a lot of veg patch envy to deal with. I've never seen wood stores packed so neatly.
Stopped at a bar for a tea while the clouds parted to show us the summit of the Jungfrau. Stunning. Served by a school leaver whose going to Leeds University; what a great summer job
The walk down was next to the raging torrents of waterfalls and rapids. Got home at 6pm. A whole days walking (almost). Sitting having a well deserved lager (unpromisingly called 'lager bier hell')
No rain!
